Accessibility statement: GNSS Finland Service

This accessibility statement applies to the GNSS Finland Service of the National Land Survey of Finland (NLS). NLS’ specialists have assessed the website’s compliance with accessibility requirements. This statement has been revised on 4 October 2024.

Defects in accessibility requirements

The accessibility of the website was assessed on 29 March 2021. The conclusions were that the website does not meet all the accessibility requirements, and there are critical accessibility flaws.

The accessibility issues discovered during the assessment are listed below. The findings are based on Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. The number and link provided after each finding indicate the section of the WCAG with which the website is currently non-compliant.

Critical issues in terms of perceivability

  • Usability with a screen reader is not yet fully compliant with the accessibility requirements. For example, stations and the signals received by them cannot be browsed and read in their entirety using a keyboard or screen reader interface.  WCAG 4.1.1, 4.1.2 and 4.1.3
  • There is no content hierarchy for page content, or the bundles have not been marked as programmatically identifiable blocks. WCAG 1.3.1 and 1.3.2
  • Colour is the only way to detect signal strength or differences between signals in a bundle consisting of several pages. WCAG 1.4.1

Critical issues in terms of operability

  • Performing certain functions, such as controlling a graph or presenting data, is not possible using a keyboard or screen reader. WCAG 2.1.1
  • Website content hierarchy is non-compliant. WCAG 2.4
  • Login dropdown menu causes a keyboard trap. WCAG 2.1.2

Moderate and minor issues in terms of understandability

  • Instructions for the user on how to react to an error during input validation in the login window is insufficient. WGAC 3.3.3
  • There are no text alternatives for the content or the required text definitions for all the abbreviations. WCAG 3.1

Plan on correcting the website

The abovementioned issues discovered on the website will be corrected as soon as possible, by 31 October 2025 at the latest.

We will answer your request as soon as possible, but no later than within two weeks. In extensive requests related to accessibility, the National Land Survey has the right to extend the response time with two weeks. If you are not satisfied with our reply or have not received a reply within two weeks, you can send a notification to the Regional State Administrative Agency for Southern Finland (in Finnish).
