Mobile view of Geodata portal Paikkatietoikkuna

Do you want to use Geodata portal Paikkatietoikkuna on your phone or tablet? The mobile view of Paikkatietoikkuna is a simplified version of Paikkatietoikkuna, which allows the service to be used as smoothly as possible on small screens. In the mobile view, you can do things such as view map layers, search for places and spatial data, and use some of the Paikkatietoikkuna tools. This is not a separate mobile app but rather a view adapted to mobile devices.

Default view

In the default view, you can use the following functions:

  • Open menu: Open the menu that includes the functions and tools. You can close the menu by clicking on the same button.
  • Zoom in and out: Zoom in with the (+) button and zoom out with the (-) button. You can also use two fingers. Keep your fingers on the screen and pinch or spread them apart to zoom.
  • Locate: When you click on the tool, the map view will be centred on your current location. This requires that you have given Geodata portal Paikkatietoikkuna permission to access your location based on your mobile device’s positioning.
  • Coordinates: By default, the tool shows the coordinates of the centre of the map view in the ETRS-TM35FIN coordinate system. You can change the coordinate system. You can also type in coordinates. By clicking on “Centre map”, the map view will be centred on the coordinates you entered. If you want to place a map marker at the coordinates, select “Add marker”.
  • North up: When you click on the tool, the map view will be oriented with north at the top.
  • Terms of Use: By clicking on the text, you can read the Geodata portal Paikkatietoikkuna Terms of Use on the National Land Survey of Finland website.
  • Data Sources: Click on the text to find out which data providers maintain the map layers currently open in the map view.
  • Select background map: Choose whether to display the National Land Survey of Finland’s topographic map, orthophotos, plain map or background map as the background for the map view. The background maps are maintained by the National Land Survey of Finland.

Functions

Through the menu, you can access the following functions:

  • Search: Search for places by name, address, real estate unit identifier or TM35 map tile identifier. The metadata search is only available in the browser version.
  • Map Layers: Select the map layers you want to see in the map view. You can search for map layers by topic or data provider. You can also choose whether to see all map layers or only vector or raster layers, for example. 
  • Selected Layers: This second tab of the map layers function lists all the map layers currently open in the map view. You can change the order of the displayed map layers, adjust transparency and define a custom style for vector layers. You enter the transparency percentage manually in the designated text field. You can view individual object information by clicking on the object on the map. The object information table is only available in the browser version.
  • Map Legends: Explore the map legends for the map layers in the map view, which explain the meaning of the different colours and symbols. Map legends are available for most raster layers.
  • Service Information: Read a short text about what Geodata portal Paikkatietoikkuna is, and how the INSPIRE Directive is related to it.
  • Notifications: Here you will find all the Geodata portal Paikkatietoikkuna notifications, such as information about service interruptions or new map layers. The latest valid notification is also found at the top of Paikkatietoikkuna.

You can also log in to Geodata portal Paikkatietoikkuna. Currently, logged-in users have the same functions available in the mobile version as non-logged-in users.


Tools

Tools available on mobile view

The tools are listed from left to right:

Forward and back: 

  1. Go to the default view.
  2. Go to the previous view.
  3. Go to the next view.

Move and measure:

  1. Pan map view: Move your finger on the screen, and the map view will move according to your finger movement.
  2. Measure distance: Click on the map at least two points to get the distance between them in kilometres.
  3. Measure area: Click on the corner points of an area to see the area enclosed in square kilometres.

Link to map view:

  1. Link to map view: The copied link takes you to the currently open map view. You can send the link to a colleague or friend, for example.

Show place: 

  1. Map marker: Click on the desired point on the map and define the style for the marker. The marker can only be a point. If there is a marker in the map view when you create a link to it, the marker will be visible to the link recipient.
  2. Show point coordinates: Click on a point on the map to see the coordinates of the point and the two closest address points.

3D view:

  1. Switch to 3D view: Switch to a three-dimensional view. Only some of the map layers work in the 3D view. You can find 3D layers in the Map Layers tab by selecting to display 3D layers. Use the same tool to return to the 2D view.
