The general aim of IVS CTE is to support education and training in the field of geodetic and astrometric Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), in order to hand over and maintain expertise in this field for the next generations.
The Terms of Reference (ToR) of the IVS CTE are:
- To organize IVS Training Schools on VLBI for Geodesy and Astrometry on a triannual basis in connection to IVS General Meetings and regional VLBI meetings.
- To establish and maintain contacts to education institutions in geodesy, geosciences and astrometry worldwide with the aim to raise the interest for geodetic and astrometric VLBI among students.
- To develop education material that can be distributed to education institutions.
The IVS Directing Board decided on its 30th meeting held at GFZ in Potsdam in September 2013 to create the IVS Committee on Training and Education, successing the IVS WG 6 on Education and Training. Rüdiger Haas (Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden) was voted as the Chair of the new committee. In March 2021 Nataliya Zubko (Finnish Geospatial Research Institute, National Land Survey of Finland) was elected as a new chair of the IVS CTE.
