Why is personal data processed?

The National Land Survey of Finland (NLS) processes personal data for the purpose of confirming and verifying a visit or remote meeting booked by or for a customer.  

What is the basis for the processing of personal data?

The NLS processes personal data on the basis of public interest. The purpose of the processing is to facilitate customer transactions and compliance with the statutory obligations of the NLS.

Whose personal data is processed?

The NLS processes the personal data of individuals who wish to book an appointment with the NLS. These include but are not limited to: 

  • Current or future owners of properties or persons acting on their behalf
  • Current or future owners of apartments or persons acting on their behalf
  • Persons booking an appointment with the NLS in matters involving map and spatial data 

What personal data is processed? 

  • Name
  • Telephone number
  • Email (if the booking is made by the customer)
  • Time and place of the appointment or service point  
  • Subject of the appointment
  • Background information or other additional information given by the customer 

Is automated decision-making or profiling used?

The processing of personal data does not involve any automated decision-making or profiling.

How long is the personal data retained?

The NLS will delete the personal data linked to an appointment once reporting and the preparation of statistics are complete.

The retention period for personal data is at most one year.  

Where does the personal data come from?  

The NLS receives the personal data from the customer in connection with the booking of the appointment.  

To whom is personal data disclosed?

The NLS only discloses data to the police in connection with a pre-trial investigation.

Personal data is not transferred outside the EU or the EEA.

What are your rights in relation to the processing of your personal data?

You have the right to be informed whether the NLS is processing your personal data and if so, which data. You may submit a request to view your personal data using our form or submit a free-form request.

You have the right to request that the NLS rectifies any inaccurate personal data without undue delay. You may submit a request for rectification using our form or submit a free-form request.

You have the right to object to the processing on grounds relating to a specific situation. You may cancel the appointment yourself. The NLS also has other alternative service channels that you can use: telephone, chat, email, a web form and visiting a service point without an appointment.

Right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Ombudsman

You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Ombudsman if you are of the opinion that the NLS has violated legislation on the processing of personal data.
