The National Land Survey of Finland reached the best level in monitoring open science and research

The National Land Survey of Finland received the highest ranking in the evaluation, which monitors the openness of science. The openness of science promotes the utilisation and extensive use of research knowledge in society.

Open science and research monitoring was implemented in its current form in Finland for the second time in 2024. In the results published now, the National Land Survey of Finland reached level 5, which is the highest level of monitoring. In the previous monitoring in 2022, the level of the National Land Survey of Finland was 2. 

At the National Land Survey of Finland, open science is part of the research strategy. At the National Land Survey of Finland, research is the responsibility of the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute FGI.

'We aim to promote open science extensively in our research, and we are glad that this is also reflected in the results of the recent evaluation', says Mari Laakso, Research Director at the National Land Survey of Finland 

The Open science and research monitoring 2024 covers all Finnish universities as well as universities of applied sciences and those research institutes for which details can be found in the Research Information Hub. In the 2024 monitoring, the focus was on publishing, data and infrastructure, learning, and operating culture. In addition to these, promotion methods were monitored: guiding documents, services and cooperation. Monitoring will be carried out again in 2026.
