Anna works at the NLS’s Information Management, as a senior IT specialist. She is the head of the Continuous Service function, which coordinates the continuity of IT services and the manages the service desk for the whole organisation. Her everyday work involves various tasks related to planning and coordination, as well as the development, monitoring and reporting of operating models. Anna has worked at the NLS for a long time: she had a summer job here for the first time in her freshman year of 2000, and she has been working permanently in the organisation since 2004. Anna has a background in information technology, in which she has the degree of a Master of Science in Technology.
Her years at the NLS have included a wide range of tasks. The very first task was related to the development of the intranet pages of the IT Centre. Although the IT Centre itself is already quite distant history, Anna has occasionally been involved in discussions concerning the current intranet of the NLS. Her work duties have also included programming, quality control and development. So far, Anna has worked longest as a service manager. During this time, email, mobile phone and video conferencing services were added to her work duties, followed by printing and workstation services, among other things. As a service manager, Anna was ultimately responsible for basic information technology. Over the years, Anna has been involved in many projects both as an employee and as a project manager. She started in her current role at the end of 2021.
Finding solutions is always rewarding
The best things about Anna’s work are the variety and new issues. There are still new cases or assignments where she initially has no idea what they are about. Doing the research and finding a solution always feels equally rewarding. During a long career, it has been possible to expand her expertise by training with the support of the employer. Anna has completed specialised vocational training in product development and management. She had the opportunity to use working time alongside her actual duties for her studies.
Which factors at the NLS and in the work tasks have made Anna feel comfortable here?
‘First of all, the people, both at the IT function and in the whole organisation. We have highly skilled and professional people and when working with them, you are constantly learning new things,’ says Anna.
‘In addition, the employer has always been reliable and flexible. We have the opportunity to do varied work tasks, and our job descriptions are reasonable packages. Responsibility has always been given appropriately, and work can be done independently. There is the feeling that the employer trusts the employees,’ Anna adds.
