The National Land Survey (NLS) has been given the award for the best employer of engineers by the Union of Professional Engineers in Finland. The jury gave several reasons for selecting the NLS as the winner. They praised our work in the long term that offers our employees opportunities for growth, professional development and success. We were also praised for being innovative, paying attention to employee's well-being at work, serving the community, as well as the cooperation with personnel representatives and employees.
The other two finalists were Laktek Engineering Oy and Andrizt Oy. The awards were presented to the winners on 13 September in a gala at the Tampere Hall.
‘Our victory is fantastic news! We are very happy that the NLS has been elected as employer of the year by the members of the Union of Professional Engineers in Finland. This is a valuable indication of the fact that our long-term work to promote a sustainable and sought-after place to work is significant. It also supports us in more difficult times. A good workplace is created jointly, and in this work, all employees are active participants’, says NLS HR Director Johanna Snellman.
The work for our employees continues
The importance of our employees has been included in our strategy for a long time. Currently ‘Sustainable and attractive workplace’ is one of five goals in our new strategy. We measure employee satisfaction every year, and it has been at a high level for several years (4.0/5.0). The job satisfaction rating is among the highest of all governmental organisations. We will continue to work to ensure that we support our employees in their work and continue to be an appreciated employer in our field.
‘The victory proves that we have been able to do things right at the NLS. This wouldn't have been possible without our strong culture of agreements and mutual trust to build our future on. The challenging financial situation has made itself known even at the NLS and has required our employees to be flexible. This victory belongs to all employees and the work that we do with a big heart’, says a happy Vesa Virtanen, chief shop steward at the NLS.
The three finalists were decided by a public vote. The winner was selected by the board of the Union of Professional Engineers in Finland together with a jury. This year, in addition to the employer of the year, awards were given for the engineering action of the year, the engineer of the year and the engineering invention of the year.
