EuroSDR project: Radiometric aspects of digital photogrammetric images

Digital imaging is rapidly replacing film imaging in phtogrammetric data capture. The special advantage of the new technology is the excellent radiometric properties, including multispectral imagery, linear response, large dynamic range, great radiometric resolution and low noise level. These properties enable the use of the images in the classical photogrammetric tasks and improve the automation level and quality of these processes, and open new application areas (e.g. change detection, classification). New approaches are needed in photogrammetric production lines to utilize the image radiometry efficiently. EuroSDR launched in May 2008 a project “Radiometric Aspects of Digital Photogrammetric Images” to investigate and advance the utilization of the image radiometry. The project is divided to theoretical and experimental phases. Sensor manufacturers, image producers, software developers and users of airborne imagery are invited to participate this project. The project is coordinated by the Finnish Geodetic Institute and Institut Cartogràfic de Catalunya.
