GeoPrivacy
Ever since various GNSS-enabled smart devices started to gain popularity in the society, the amount of personal location data recorded with different fitness apps has increased steadily. This data could be used for example in city planning, where additional information could help design new pedestrian lanes or pinpoint problematic locations in the current lane network.
At present this data is gathered mainly by private companies who usually do not share it with third parties. This is partly because handling personal data is highly regulated and must be done with care. The outcome is that the full potential of the data is not harnessed.
In GeoPrivacy project we study methods to share personal location data while preserving the privacy of the data subjects. Specifically, we study if the data could be altered in a way that it would no longer be considered personal data but would still be useful for various use cases.
