Optimization of the Levelling Network and Geoid Models for Future Height Systems (TarGeOp)
In this project, funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland, the focus is on optimizing the levelling network and studying how the geoid changes due to land uplift. The project aims to address the following issues:
• How can the new levelling network along roadways be optimized?
• By how much will the length of the levelling network along roadways increase compared to the current network, while ensuring enough common points for determining land uplift and transformations?
• How does the geoid change during land uplift?
The project aims to develop a method to optimize the new national first-class levelling network. The minimum criteria for the network include connections to tide gauge stations, permanent GNSS stations of the FinnRef network, and boundary connection points at the borders with Sweden, Norway, and Russia. It should also incorporate as many rock-based benchmarks from previous levelling surveys as possible, to obtain more accurate information on land uplift through measurements. Additionally, the project will investigate how the geoid model changes as land uplift occurs.
