Methods and algorithms of laser scanning
The research of laser scanning was initiated in Finland in 1997. Laser scanning provides a point cloud, the coordinates of each point are known. Additionally, the backscattering intensity of the target is recorded. Due to its capability to provide accurate 3D information, it is a future technique to provide virtual reality. The Finnish Geodetic Institute concentrates on development of new laser scanning methods and processes. New data is provided typically as a part of international measurement campaigns.
