Quantitative remote sensing by 3D hyperspectral UAVs – From theory to practice (QuantitativeRS)
Remote sensing using small unmanned airborne vehicle (sUAV) is a rapidly emerging technology. Finnish researchers and companies have made world leading innovations and openings in hyperspectral miniaturized sensor technology. Utilization of hyperspectral data is based on the analysis of object spectral signature in order to make interpretations about the object characteristics and status. When sensors are operated outdoors using UAVs, the captured remote sensing data is subject to many disturbances, which have to be corrected in order to analyze the data in quantitative manner. Objective of this proposal is to assess the performance and commercialization potential of the quantitative hyperspectral UAV data calibration, processing and analysis technologies developed in the previous project in Finland in collaboration with Finnish sensor manufacturers and industry. Case studies will be carried out in precision agriculture, water quality assessment and forest health assessment.
