Real-time transformation services in the context of an SDI
The aim of the research in this project is to set up pilot services for coordinate system transformations, schema transformations and generalization to test these functionalities in the context of the national SDI. The adopted pilot approach will enhance the understanding on how these services should be organized in an operational setting. Geodata sharing is an important goal of the national strategy for geographic information. The implementation rules of the INSPIRE process will also require member states to support functionalities for transforming geospatial content. Test implementations of the transformation services will be set up early on in the project. Three important transformation types can be identified: 1) coordinate reference system (CRS) transformations 2) schema transformations 3) generalization transformations. A prototype implementation of each of these transformation service types will be available as the final result of the project. International partners of the project include International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), Netherlands and Institut Geographique National (IGN), France.
