The objective of the @Quality4Roads project is to develop an automated distress detection system to quantify the quality of road surfaces. European countries spend large amounts of resources on their road networks for reconstruction, renewal and major infrastructure repairs. The interpretation system is assumed to be be both the most accurate and the most cost-effective one compared to those available.

Our vision is:

Having developed such an automatic mapping system we can drive along Finnish roads using fleet of autonomous cars attached to this kind of automatic road mapping systems: we can measure speed of all kinds of crack development, measure deformations, and at the same time we obtain profiles of the roads as well as rutting depths and speeds on Finnish roads.
